Pahang – Tioman Island

Tioman Island is a tropical paradise in the South China Sea about 36 nautical miles off Malaysia’s east coast. According to legend, Tioman Island is the resting place of a beautiful dragon princess, Whilst flying from China to visit her prince in Singapore, this beautiful maiden stopped to seek solace in the crystal-clear waters of the South China Sea. Enraptured by the charms of the place, she decided to discontinue her journey. By taking the form of an island, she pledged to offer shelter and comfort to passing travellers.

We booked our tour through an agency and got a 3 day 2 night package at Berjaya Tioman Beach Resort. We took the “scenic route” - 3 hours by coach to tanjung gemok, then 2 hour ferry to tioman island.

Finally at the Berjaya jetty…

The chalets are clean and comfortable with airconditioning, TV, and bath…

They even have a donkey ranch for the children…

And of course the beach!! that’s what we’re here for :)

Look at the crystal clear waters…

A fantastic way to relax by the beach…

Or enjoy the sunset…

Steamboat dinner by the beach – I give it a “C” for food, but an “A” for ambience

We took the round island tour which consisted of a trip up to a waterfall and 4 snorkeling stops, including gear and life jacket. The tour was RM100 per person and lasted from 1030hrs to 1700hrs.

Entering the nature reserve…

First stop – Mukut Waterfall

Second stop - lunch and a quick swim at Juara Beach…

A view from the restaurant on Juara Beach…

Then it’s back on the boat again…

Third stop – Coral island, whitest beach and clearest water I’ve ever seen!

Some rocks off Coral Island – beware of strong currents

Forth Stop – Tioman jetty, i sat in the boat and watched children dive off the platform

Fifth stop - Renggis Island, just opposite Berjaya Beach…

Scott waving while snorkeling :)

All-in-all a fantastic trip! Total expenditure per person this trip was: S$388

  • Travel & accomodation – S$271
  • Round island tour – RM100 / S$42
  • BBQ buffet dinner – RM59 / S$25
  • Steamboat dinner – RM55 / S$23
  • Drinks at the bar – RM50 / S$21
  • Lunch at Juara Beach - RM14 / $6
